    The Assistant is responsible for assisting in managing SEM vendors, carrying out search engine marketing operations and understanding and achieving client goals and objectives throughout campaigns. As an entry level position, the Assistant, Search Marketing position represents the start of a Search career and is highly supervised by a Senior Search Engine Marketing Associate.

    The Assistant, Search Marketing position is training-intensive. Aptitude for learning new skills (both technical and organic) and procedures is essential. The Associate is expected to be an active participant, increasing participation over time in the position. The Associate is also encouraged to contribute ideas and insights that will benefit our clients.


    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


    Search Engine Marketing:

    • Assisting staff in keyword research, report generation, copywriting and implementation
    • Working closely with  Sr. Associate on all major accounts
    • Working with the major search engines such as Google and Overture to launch new terms and phrases
    • Compiling performance data and assisting in developing weekly and monthly reports
    • Optimizing keyword copy to maximize conversion rates
    • Process invoices in a timely manner to keep accounts payable and engine payments moving
    • Demonstrate multi-tasking ability, keep multiple projects on-track, structuring and executing work


    Client & Internal Relationships:

    ·         Support Sr. Associates in preparing and delivering work to clients, colleagues within Carat’s cross-channel account team

    ·         Attends all status meetings when appropriate

    ·         Manage relationships with external client vendors

    ·         May participate and contribute in face to face client meetings

    ·         Engages with all work-related contacts in a professional & respectful manner

    ·         Possesses mature and professional business acumen in personal and written communications


    Strategic Thinking & Leadership:

    ·         Keep current with market research (industry periodicals, email newsletters, websites) 

    ·         Demonstrate clear active listening skills and ability to apply learnings over time

    ·         Recognize potential issues and problems, know when to escalate and propose solutions, where possible

    ·         Take clear ownership of tasks assigned


    Communication Skills:

    ·         Express oneself clearly and concisely in oral communications

    ·         Write  in a clear, compelling and concise manner

    ·         Organize ideas and information logically and sequentially


    ·         Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, internship in marketing, agency preferred

    ·         0-2 years industry experience

    ·         Strong analytical skills

    ·         Strong interest in and familiarity with the Internet

    ·         Desire to learn about Search Engine Marketing

    ·         Advanced computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 

    ·         Ability to learn server-based software and tools
